Katrin Eismann

Katrin studied photography and electronic still imaging at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Upon graduating at the top of her class in 1991, she had the good fortune to become the first intern at the Kodak Center of Creative Imaging in Camden, Maine. Three years later she was the Director of Education and had implemented a rigorous curriculum that focused on imaging, design, and multimedia. In 2002 she received her MFA degree in Design from the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where she is currently an active faculty member in the undergraduate Computer Art Department.

Katrin has authored a string of bestselling books, including Photoshop Masking & Compositing, Real World Digital Photography, and her groundbreaking, award-winning book “Photoshop Restoration and Retouching” which is thought by many to be the bible on digital photo retouching.

Besides her books, she has written numerous articles for magazines like PEI, Computer Artist, Imaging News, and her “Creative Point of View” column appears in each issues of Photoshop User magazine. Her work includes projects for Apple Computer, The American Film institute, Time-Life, The Walt Disney Company, Nikon, and Adobe Systems, among others.

Katrin is one of the digital imaging industry’s most sought-after instructors, and she regularly speaks at trade shows and conferences around the world, including workshops and lectures in Peru, Finland, and Portugal, along with the How Conference, The Thunder Lizard Conference, The PhotoPlus Expo, Adobe Photoshop Training Camp Live, the Santa Fe Workshops, and here at Photoshop World.

Katrin has contributed to Photoshop’s development as an Alpha tester, and she has become one of the most respected sources of Photoshop information in the industry today. But behind her skills as an instructor is her passion for creating art, and her innovative fine art style has won her both accolades and public showings, including her successful exhibit Silent Beauty at Keene State College.

Katrin’s teaching continues to focus on addressing the latest tools and techniques of digital imaging and the impact they are having upon professional photographers, artists, and educators. When asked for career advice by students, she once remarked, “You have to do what you love. Follow your passion and everything else will work itself out.”

It is for her countless contributions to the art and education of Adobe Photoshop, that we honor her today with induction into the Photoshop Hall of Fame.
